Abstract : In the present era, noise pollution has become a crucial stumbling block not only for one specific or a particular
region but for the whole world. Like water pollution, air pollution, and land pollution, noise pollution has been distinguished
as a major threat to the environment in developed as well as developing countries. Noise pollution has multiple adverse
effects on human health ranging from some minor to worst and severe if exposed to noise for longer periods Hundreds and
thousands of people are suffering from short-term and long-term poor-health effects of noise as well. In the words of the
World Health Organization (WHO) “Noise must be recognized as a major threat to human well-being”. Sound is pleasing to
our ears and is a type of energy that is developed when objects are set into vibration. It grows as an auditory wave through
the solid, liquid, and gaseous states as the vibration from any object appear into existence. An ideal recognizable value of
sound ranges from 20 and 20 kHz. The sound that has a frequency below 20Hz is known as Infrasound and a sound that has
a frequency above 20 kHz is known as Ultrasound. Whenever the intensity of sound exceeds/crosses the threshold of
discomfort which is 100 dB (A) and enters the threshold of pain which is 130 dB (A) at sound pressure of 63 Pascals
becomes a noise. This is very dangerous, not pleasing to our ears, is an unwanted, annoying and irritable sound. This
unwanted annoying sound for long time exposures creates multiple health problems such as hearing loss, heart attack,
strokes, mental disorders, sleep insomnia, decreased cognitive functioning, etc. In this article, such types of adverse effects of
noise on human health will be discussed.
