Munj – Possible Raw Material for Fashion Accessories

Abstract
Traditional arts and crafts have been symbolic representations of each and every Indian state. With the introduction of One District One Craft project by the Government of Uttar Pradesh, each and every district has been allotted and identified with a special traditional craft which was being practiced in the region. In Prayagraj munj craft is practiced by locals for the past half century. This paper is based on the results and interaction with women from Mahewa region who have continued the traditional practice of making munj articles. The research attempts to find the scope of using this raw material to make fashion accessories. It explores the limitations of the craft and issues related to wider production, in terms of quality, quantity and variety and concludes with suggestions development of fashion accessories.
