Paper Title
Diy Ventilator: Using Arduino and Blood Oxygen Monitoring to Assist Pandemic Patients
Abstract
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the shortage of hospital-grade ventilators led to a surge in the development of
open-source hardware mechanical ventilators (OSH-MVs). This resulted in a fragmented design space with varying degrees
of innovation and functionality. To help researchers without a background in biomedical engineering, we created a taxonomy
system that analyzes ten design properties through three criteria: buildability, adaptability, and scalability. We applied this
system to seventeen OSH-MV projects, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of each and suggesting possible directions
for the field's development.
