Paper Title
Study on Mechanical Properties of Al2219 Metal Matrix Composites Subjected to Age Hardening
Abstract
Al2219/B4C composites are highly desirable materials for use in aerospace industries specifically in fuel tanks
present in the wing of the aircraft owing to their unique combination of characteristics. Al2219/B4C composites can be
created using a variety of procedures, although stir casting is the most widely used method because of uniform distribution
of reinforcement in the base metal matrix, also it is simplest and most affordable method. Al2219 is reinforced with 2 wt.%
and 4 wt.% of B4C and specimens were prepared as per the ASTM Standards followed by heat treatment to enhance the
mechanical properties. The effect of reinforcement on tensile strength and hardness of the composite material is determined
and compared with the heat treated and un heat treated specimens. SEM and EDAX tests are used for microstructural
analysis.
