Abstract : Social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube etc have been widely used by the current
generation on a daily basis. They have become an integral part of their daily communication. Many studies in the past have
focused on the negative impact of social media on academics and student engagement. It is believed that its negative impact
outweighs its benefits. This paper focuses on inculcating social media in academics which will lead to better students’
engagement and result in an innovation in education. A comparative survey was conducted taking into account 400 students
from different private and public schools in Delhi. Some of these schools had social media clubs and some didn’t. The
findings stated that the schools which had social media clubs led to better students’ engagement and thus social media
proved to be an advantage as compared to the other schools which followed the usual classroom teaching methods of
learning.
