Performance and Integrity Evaluation of AES & DES Cryptographic Methods

Abstract
Technology is growing with the lightning speed and with its growth, many users are gaining useful information while some are exploiting the resources for their own benefits. Keeping this all in mind, information has to be made secure in order to save them from going into the right hands. At this time, cryptography comes into play where the encryption of the information using a private key makes the data secured so that they could not be understood by the other people. In order to understand these concepts, two symmetric key algorithms are explained that are DES and AES and an analysis is performed on both the algorithms for finding the execution time of encryption as well as decryption for different file sizes and also checking its efficiency under different conditions of the system. At last, a verification check is performed on the algorithms using message digest 5 hashing algorithm for checking whether the original file and decrypted file contains the same content or not. The main concern of this paper is the efficiency of the performance of the algorithms on the system and verification of the original and decrypted file.
