Abstract : According to Haas and Hwang (2019), parental leave is a family right that permits parents to divide their overall leave time as they see suitable. This benefit is usually available to both parents (mother and father). Paternity leaves of several weeks have not been permitted in Oyo State, Nigeria, but if this leave opportunity is granted to both parents, it can enhance parent-child bonding and further increase gender equality both at work and at home. This study intends to investigate fathers' unequal treatment and provide a record of policies, mentalities, and behaviours related to parental leave for fathers in Oyo State. This study employs a qualitative approach in order to capture some of the complexities that famous scholars have observed as inherent in parental leave laws. Finally, data show that even if men are allowed paternity leave, they will not stay at home to assist their spouses. Almost 90% of those polled approved to paternity leave. While the child sobs at midnight, the majority of fathers carry the child, sing to the child, and pet the child to sleep. This point, among others, is sufficient for males to be considered for the leave, despite they believe the leave will be shorter than that of mothers.
